- People who are un-greatfull.... I see people who's parents go out and buy them horses that cost thousands of $$$$ and then when the horse "acts up" they blame it on the horse, they don't want to have to work to earn stuff, they get a wonderfully trained horse who is amazing, and because of their lack of training sell it, I feel sorry for those horses.....
- People who are just plain mean to their horses.... I can understand people smaking their horse for maybe 2-3 reasons, 1 is if the horse bites them, (3 second kill), 2 kicks them, or 3 anything like the sort of 1 & 2. there are training methods like Rollkur, and I mean REALLY!?!? how can people do that, or even in my old vet book, the put chemicals on the horses legs that BURN THEM! Or where they would tie a horse to a tree by its tail! I mean really how is this not considered abuse? If I ever saw something like that I would be on the phone with animal control in an instant!!! I don't care who you are or where you come from, no animal deserves that kind of treatment, how would everyone else feel, if I tied them to a pole with their hair? Not so nice now is it.....
- People who are too nice..... yes there are horse people who are to nice, they let their horses sit around as pasture pets their whole lives, if you do that i can guarente 99% of the time that horse is going to have horrible ground manners that whoever gets the horse next has to fix, or I see people who put blankets on their horses, when in fact they really don't need them, I can see if a horse is moving from say Florida to Canada, but there are very few reasons to blanket your horses and 99% of the time they are not needed at all. It got down to -50 wind chill where I live, our horses had no blankets at all, and let me tell you, they were as fat and happy as ever :) There are also people who think food=love, well guys, thats a good way to send your horse to the vet with founder! So when people try to be nice to their horses, they usually do way more harm than good.
- People who need bits to control their horse...... yes I use bits, do I ride in it EVERY time I ride no, I use a bit to help with finness or lighter cues, but you don't see me yanking on Chucks mouth all the time now do you, rarely do you see me riding on anything other than a loose rein, I hate it when people are always on the bit, I mean really cant you just leave your horse alone? If you watched Clinton Anderson's show from a few weeks ago, you would see when he did what I see a lot of people do, constantly moving wiggling the reins and keeping them tight, the horse was calm, but as soon as Clinton did what is all to common among many riders, guess what the horse spooked! I don't know about you, but if I had a person constantly yanking on something in my mouth, I would be throwing a fit too!
- People who have way to much money..... Yes I know its not something I can control, or even people themselves, but I see people who buy horses, and only ride them once every 2 weeks. I also see people who go out and spend thousands of $$$ on a horse, and because there horse is great so are they. If you have been around horses for quite a bit of time, then you can pick the honestly good rider with an average horse, from the bad rider with a horse that makes them look good. I hate it because a lot of these people get offended when they are told they arn't doing something right, or they say thats the way my trainer does it, they get offended, or the blame it on the horse, I know not all people that have money are that way, but honestly most of them are.
- People who are uninformed...... I see people so much that are just uninformed, or misinformed about horses, and they go around preaching to people about horses to other people, and the people just believe it.... I can honestly say, I have heard so many dumb things that people who actually own horses, even some who have owned horses their whole lives say about them, there are so many people out there who A. are to scared or B. to dumb to think for themselves. They don't think about what they are doing when they do something. "well my trainer said he needs a twisted wire snaffle" well you my friend are a dummy, your horse doesn't need a different bit, you both need a different trainer, ditch that person and find someone else, or hey maybe don't listin to your trainer, and spend some time trying to find out what you did wrong.... I also see people who go out and say things to non horsey people, like my horse can run fast and the people ohh and ahh. I mean really people, any horse can run fast! Thats like saying I run in track and I run fast.... whoopdy doo....... then there are the ones who think they know it all, but when it comes time to show it, they don't know squat.... my moto is PRACTICE WHAT YOU PREACH.... If your going to give advice on how to ride to other people A. Do it youself B. have PROOF that it actually works C. have others do the same thing, and support you to show you it works, and that is exactly what I do with Roni. We are partners, I start Chuck on something new and shes right there with me, learning the same thing, Roni hasn't been around horses her whole life, heck a year ago, she would probably have been afraid to canter, but now she has fixed a horse that has bucked off, bolted, kicked and bit the crap out of others including herself, and I know it takes a lot to get back on, but she is more of a horse person than MANY of the people I know. To be honest we both are..... everywhere I look where I live, I see people with huge shanks on their bits, heck I even make comments about people at the rodeos, and there "profesionals" just because someones a "pro" at Rodeo, Breeding, Barrel Racing, Western Pleasure, Gymkana, Jumping, or Dressage, doesn't mean their right or good. Hey take a look at Linda Parelli! "Famous Worldwide natural horsemanship trainer" who also repeadly slapped a BLIND horse in the face...... Now here is where the A. to scared and B. To dumb to think by themselves come in, people are to scared to not follow her methods because they don't want to try something new, or are to dumb to realize what is happening or just ignore it completly. Heck when confronted about it she just makes up excuses, she never said she did anything wrong, or say she should have, or even could have done something else other than slap the poor thing. She is a world famous horse trainer, now why in the would would you pay hundreds of $$$ for a video on a trainer that slaps a blind horse, I sure wouldnt....
