- Kayley Mind you, I'm still learning so please bear with me! But to me he is sway-backed, fat and has tiny legs compared to his body. Looks like a halter bred AQH or paint he has a pretty head and nice healthy shine to his coat
- Tara When I first met this horse he by no means looked this good!!! He is looking great and you two are doing well together!! I know it's not the answer you wanted lol
- Alisha Ya he is fat! Been working on that Thanks I knew he had flaws but Im not good at judging conformation, I like his head and his coat too
- Kara Looks in great shape coat and weight wise, definitely healthy! I'm no expert but looks a little straight in the shoulder and possibly a little over at the knees conformation wise
- Holly Topline is "eh," steep shoulder, thick neck and plain head. Banding the mane may help the neck and a proper fitting halter would help the head a bit. I agree, don't stretch him out but stand him square. Haircoat does look good, I wouldn't want him any fleshier but rather more toned.
- Alisha Thanks everyone and ya Tara hes looking better, but he could also afford to shed a few pounds also sorry for him parking out like that in the one photo, like I said im a little new with this! Thanks for telling it like it is, I know he has flaws I am just not experienced enough to see them! Thanks for all the comments
- Holly As far as how he would place in a halter class, that's almost impossible to say. It would depend on what level you want to show as well as what else is in the pen that day.
- Kayley As I said, I'm still new to horse judging. Now that I go back and look at all the photos, I guess it's just the way he was standing in the one. Thanks for offering the opportunity with your boy! Good luck
- Alisha Thanks for the comments everyone, we would only be doing small local shows, working on getting his weight down, havn't ridden at all this week except for Monday because its been a little too hot.... hopefully more riding in the weeks to come when it cools of (I hope)
- Tara When ya set him up make him back up a few steps to get himself under him, band his mane but don't cut it lol his butt could use Lil more muscling to me but he's still the perfect horse for ya you've come along way!!
- Alisha Thanks, maybe ill try banding his mane next time! Ya im new to setting him up so thanks for the advice!
- Julie I never know if these "judge my horse's conformation" questions really and truly want honest answers. I would hate to hurt anybody's feelings. But since you asked, he looks like a sweet, nice riding horse and I am sure you love him. He does not look like a horse one would see in a halter class.
- Varina I think if you just want experience showing... go for it. He has flaws, but honestly you can find flaws in any horse. I wouldnt say he needs to lose weight but he needs to be toned up. He can work that into muscle. Good luck.
- Melisa Hell, I'm gonna show my TWH (profile pic) in halter at the local fun shows and he's full of flaws. It's good experience, benefits the local 4-H, and puts more horses in the class so those who DO ribbon can brag bigger about how many horses they beat Your guy is a cute, sturdy boy who looks suitable for many things....more than can be said for many of the current top AQHA halter horses. Go for it!
- Carey you folks just can't stop dinging on halter horses can you? wow!! one in every bunch ..ok that being said Alisha Storm you can change a lot with this horse some things you can't..pull his mane from the bottom side only, thin it out , shorten it to about 3 inches when you show also band it tight!, put a neck sweat on him and work him.. wash neck after each work out head is fine !! he is a tad straight shouldered no big deal for local shows, have seen a lot worse! He does come out a little low in neck, so poise him to the judge, with head a little high but don't hollow out his back doing it, always stand him "square" for the judge, with back feet just a tad under him keep a straight line from tail head thru hocks to fetlock, keep a throat latch sweat on him at all times will help the thick throat latch about one 3 to 4 inches wide even when you work him, back him a lot to enhance and develop his rump and depth of hip and take about 150 pounds off him HE will do just Fine! 30n days to make this difference take a before and after pic you will see!
- Carey if you want more tips just email me no problem..been doing fitting horses for halter/show over 25 yearsHeres the other one!
- Shayden I show halter and I think your boy would do great because he has great conformation.
- Lana He is very well balanced which is what you look for in a good horse....
- Deborah Love his confirmation.....He reminds of a foundation quarter horse
- Alisha Any ideas with anything else he would be good at? We dabble in a little bit of everything..... but don't know what he would be physicaly able to excel at? We have done jumping and worked on barrel pattern a few times.... he gets VERY excited when we jump
- Reggie He looks foundation quarter horse . And think he would do very well in halter. His conformation is very nice.
- Alisha Wow thanks everyone, I thought he would just be kinda bad or average we got him at a sale barn about 3 years ago he turned out to be my dream horse!
- Loretta Good for you I have several foundation quarter horses and paints and been in the business since birth
- Eric Im not fighting just stateing . And ive had both sence birth as well so lol i wasnt trying to b a butt lol have great night
