- This is an interesting one, I was probably 3-4 at the time, barley old enough to remember it, I wasn't able to go out and ride by myself so I was riding with my grandpa, on Buttons, he had a history of sucking (as in air when you tighten the girth) and my grandpa thought he had it tight, he got me up, then got up himself, we didn't even make it up the hill of the driveway, Buttons turned sideways and the saddle started sliding, my grandpa fell partialy on me and it is a lovely gravel driveway, we were okay, and all was good, to say the least my grandpa learned that the girth needs to be checked even after you get on
- This was actually a scarry fall for me at the time, Candy my grandmas horse was a very trusty horse, I was probably 4-6 years old, I was riding out by myself while my grandparents were building their house in what used to be the horse pasture, they were on the top of the hill and I was riding on the lower side by the river, Candy and Buttons used to graze on the top of the hill because it was a big open area, so Candy went and tried running up the hill and she slipped and fell and my leg was caught, as she struggled to get up I was able to get my leg out, her leg was caught underneath a log, she struggled for a bit then quieted down I had tried to help her up, but I couldn't I ran up the hill crying to my grandpa, he came back down the hill with me, he tried to get the log off her but couldn't so he walked back to the farm to get a chainsaw and I stayed with Candy, he came back and started cutting the log into pieces and we got her up, so then we took her back down and I was done riding for the day...
- This one was also with Candy, it was one of my very first times experiencing cantering, I loved the thrill of it, I was still only 5/6 and this was completly forein to me and Candy did it once around the corner and I asked my grandma what it was called, and I wanted to do it some more, so I did it around that corner, because that was the only spot I could get her to do it, a few days before the trailer house that used to be at the farm had been taken away, and sombody had taken a post out of the ground and hadn't filled it in, Candy cantered around the corner, and bam her leg went into the hole and she tripped and fell, I didn't get landed on and again we got candy up and put her back out....
- This is my first actual bad "fall" I was 7 at the time, I had been out riding Lilly my almost 3 year old paint mare, I could tell she had been gettng irritated and was done for the day, so I wanted to end on a good note, I came back up and hopped off but my grandpa came over and told me that I needed to go back out and keep riding, he helped me back up and I started to head back towards the river, I got a little ways down by the gate, and she started acting up, she did a few little rears and then spun around I tried to turn her around but she started bucking, I stayed on for a few seconds but then flew over her head and landed flat on my back on a gravel driveway, looking back now, the way she ran I am lucky she didn't step on me, I was really scared being only 7 and having a horse buck that hard and the fall hurt that bad knocked me bad..... My grandpa went and caught her after she ran around for a while, then he got on her and rode her....
- We tried to get help for lilly we offered to board my moms friends horse if she would finish out Lilly for us. Her horse was also a 2 1/2 year old, after my accident my mom made me wear a helmet when riding and boy am I glad she did, this lady had me be the first one to get on her horse Julie, so she lunged the horse while I was just a passenger, it ended up with me flying head first into a metal gate landing on the concrete below.... she later moved her horse and ended up selling her because the horse threw her too and broke her wrist...
